I finally dropped into the bakery one block down from my apartment yesterday to check out what they offer and the opening times .. and my impressions were two: "From now on, no more soft-as-baby-skin (yummy!) no-nutritional-value white bread from the supermarket, but real, halfway brown bread from here!" and "Japan FTW! Christianity FTL!".
In Japan, Sunday is not particularly different from any other day. OK, admittedly probably more people are free than on any other day of the week, but the amount of businesses open is still ten times more than in Holland, that historically-Jewish/Christian-now-slightly-more-but-not-really-secular state that closes about 90% of its shops on Sundays. In Japan, God didn't install a national day of rest on Sunday; people installed a "fixed day off", which can be decided by shopkeepers themselves. Thus, the days of the week are nicely spread out across all shops, and with just a little precaution you never have to worry about getting what you need, anytime.
Japan, the most convenient country in the world to live in! The saga continues...
